There’s always one Group of 5 that grabs our attention annually. Most years, it’s the Boise State Broncos of the Mountain West. Last year, the Western Michigan Broncos rowed the boat all the way to the Cotton Bowl. Could this be the year for the South Florida Bulls of The American?

South Florida enters the game ranked No. 21 in the country. This is former Louisville Cardinals and Texas Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong’s first year in Tampa. Joining him in Storrs is former Auburn Tigers offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee.

The Bulls could captivate the nation’s attention with a strong September out of The American. They have the head coach and quarterback tandem to do so. UConn might struggle its first year under Edsall and Lashlee, but those are two coaches that know what they’re doing. They should have UConn playing respectably by the end of the year.
