College football is the world of the whacky, but this is downright hilarious.

College football is the wild west. If you can imagine it happening, odds are it already has. It’s very rare you see something new in college football, however, if you were watching the UCLA vs. Hawaii contest today, odds are you saw something you’ve never seen before.

During the game, Hawaii quarterback Dru Brown was looking for a receiver on a slant over the middle. A defensive lineman for UCLA saw that he couldn’t get to Brown for the sack, so instead, he took it upon himself to fling his towel at the pass.

While unsuccessful, you can’t help but respect the effort. Seriously, when has someone ever thrown a towel at a ball to try and knock down a pass and why isn’t it tried more? Surely someone will at least deflect the ball. Is this a penalty? Probably, but he can certainly sleep well tonight knowing he really left it all out on the field as can UCLA coach Jim Mora knowing that he is currently off the hot seat. I’d bet he’s thankful his player didn’t throw in that towel after the first half last week, too.

UCLA went on to win big with the final being 56-23 with Josh Rosen having a rather easy day, completing 22 of 25 passes for 329 yards and five scores. Safe to say, UCLA may be heading down the right track, and if throwing towels at footballs is any sign, the players are clearly buying in. Keep an eye on the Bruins as the season progresses into conference play, and keep your eyes peeled for flying towels as well.
