Who are the top running back sleepers for Week 1? We run down the list and give some lesser names to win with.

In this series, we identify players who you will want to find space for in your starting lineups this week. We cover names who aren’t on your list of “must-starts”, but could fit into gaps where you need a boost.

10. D’Onta Foreman

Stay with me here. I’m very aware that at this point in the season, Lamar Miller is entrenched as the number one running back in Houston. I don’t expect that to change too soon. However, the Texans kick off their season against the struggling Jaguars and this one could be a blowout.

Third round NFL draft pick Foreman will be playing second fiddle to Lamar Miller, but don’t be surprised if the team tries to ease him and he sees opportunities – especially if they have a lead to defend. I’ve written before that he is a great short-yardage and goal-line option, and he might begin to work into those duties straight away.

In the preseason, put together a couple of very strong performances and had 96 rushing yards on 16 carries (5.8 yards per attempt) and 72 receiving yards on only four catches – he was out there making plays. In his debut in front of his home crowd in Houston, it would be no surprise if the team wanted to get him rolling and used him at the goal line to vulture a touchdown or two from Miller. If you’re desperate at running back and have no other options, plug Foreman in.
