10 RB sleepers to target for fantasy football week 1
4. Shane Vereen
For years now, it seems the New York Giants simply haven’t had running backs. From a fantasy football perspective, they really haven’t as no back has been a strong, consistent option that we can rely on. This year Paul Perkins is the main man in the backfield, but drafters aren’t convinced, and he was coming off draft boards in the sixth or seventh rounds (or even lower). If he’s not going to be the all-encompassing back in New York, who else will contribute?
Vereen has been wrecked with injuries during his six-year career, and after making the move to the Giants from the New England Patriots in 2015, hasn’t made a huge impact. However, he’s healthy and figures to be an integral part of New York’s offense on third downs and in passing situations in 2017.
There are a lot of weapons around Manning this season, and he’ll have a hard time coming up with enough production to turn all of them into relevant fantasy assets, but it’s a good time to have pieces of this offense. Against the Cowboys on Sunday night, don’t be shocked if a few of the lesser-known names have big games while the Dallas defense focuses on taking away the top options.
