Raiders at Titans: Highlights, score and recap
By Brad Weiss
The Oakland Raiders came away with a big victory against the Titans.
Last season, the Oakland Raiders and Tennessee Titans played a tight one inside Nissan Stadium, with the Raiders coming out on top. This season, it was more of the same, as these two potential playoff teams really played each other tough on Sunday. In the end, the Raiders made enough plays to come away with the victory, and will now head home to host the New York Jets in Week 2.
The scoring got started in a hurry for both teams, as the Raiders and Titans scored touchdowns on their first drives. The Titans tried an onside kick to start the game, that the Raiders recovered near midfield. It took them only four plays to find the end zone, as Amari Cooper dragged nearly half the Titans defense into the end zone for a 7-0 lead.
On the next possession, the Titans went the length of the field, scoring a touchdown on a Marcus Mariota run. The teams would trade field goals up until halftime, where the Raiders went into the locker room with a 13-10 lead thanks on a beautiful 52-yard field goal by Giorgio Tavecchio. The kicker was signed to the active roster on Saturday, replacing veteran Sebastian Janikowski who is currently nursing an injury.
The two teams traded field goals in the third quarter, as the defenses made enough plays to halt the long drive. In the fourth quarter, the Raiders looked to pull away when Derek Carr hit Seth Roberts for a 19-yard touchdown. Tennessee responded with a field goal, and with under five minutes left in the game, the score was 23-16 in favor of Oakland.
Oakland would tack on another field goal late, leaving Music City with a huge victory in Week 1. In a game with major playoff implications, including the Wildcard late in the year, Oakland has to be happy with leaving Tennessee with their first win of the season.
Highlights
Three Stars
1.Derek Carr
The quarterback of the Oakland Raiders came back in a big way on Sunday, as he made throw after throw against the Titans defense. Carr finished the game with 262 yards passing, including two touchdowns against zero interceptions. He played a very effective game, protecting the ball, and completing passes to right different receivers.
2. Corey Davis
With their first pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Titans selected Corey Davis, and he had quite the first game in the NFL on Sunday. Davis made play after play, racking up six receptions in his NFL debut. He showed he can go deep, catch the ball over the middle, and has that WR1 skill set that the Titans have been waiting for to team with Marcus Mariota.
3. Giorgio Tavecchio
In his first regular season game, Giorgio Tavecchio was pretty stellar replacing the injured Sebastian Janikowski. Tavecchio kicked his first field goals of his NFL career, and was perfect on the afternoon. It was quite the NFL debut, going 4-for-4, with two 50-yarders, including a 52-yarder to end the field half.
