Manchester United made their return to the Champions League against Basel Wednesday, and Romelu Lukaku opened his European account.

In what has been a mostly comfortable match for Manchester United, it’s no surprise Romelu Lukaku’s got on the score sheet. United have dominated the flow of the match, doing whatever they please in the process. It truly comes as no surprise they led by two goals with nearly half the match to go.

United have a huge advantage in the box with Marouane Fellaini and Lukaku, and they took advantage. With both in the box, the ball is bound to find one of them. A nicely curled ball found its way to Lukaku and he calmly headed it home.

There was some worry going into the season about United’s new signing. In a very short amount of time, Lukaku has silenced his critics. He currently leads the Premier League with four goals in four matches. And he now has his first ever Champions League goal in his first appearance with the Red Devils.

His goalscoring prowess is paying dividends for United, and if he keeps up the pace, he could be en-route to earning Golden Boot honors. Basel aren’t a powerhouse of a club, and their defense on Lukaku’s goal was lackluster. But that doesn’t take anything away from the quality Lukaku is displaying week-in week-out.

Teams should be afraid to play against United, similar to years past when they were led by Sir Alex Ferguson. If Lukaku and Marcus Rashford are scary enough, wait for Zlatan Ibrahimovic to make his return in January. United have a talented roster, and Lukaku is leading their revival.
