To be blunt, Urban Meyer and the Ohio State Buckeyes had no business being near the College Football Playoff last season. This is something most were willing to admit, yet there they were, with Meyer working some of that magic of his once again, a rebuilding squad getting a shot at the national championship. Sure, Clemson beat them into submission, but because of the youth and inexperience no one really took them to task for it — and rightfully so.

But this season, with the team being a little more experienced, the Buckeyes were expected to be right back there within the final four again, but those hopes were delivered a dent on Saturday night with the loss to Oklahoma at inside the Horseshoe.

While a loss to Oklahoma isn’t completely damaging to the team’s title hopes this year, their overall performance throughout the first two weeks of the season might be. Mainly, there seems to be an issue at quarterback with J.T. Barrett. He showed some serious struggles in that Week 1 win over Indiana, and those were evident once again on Saturday night in the loss to the Sooners. This Buckeyes team just can’t seem to stay in a consistent rhythm on the offensive side of the ball, which could be a major problem for the squad moving forward.

Not all is lost just yet this season for Meyer and Ohio State. However, with a big loss now on the record, Urban had better figure out rather quickly what the issues here are, or else a berth in the playoff will be completely out of the question before they know it.
