Sit: Carlos Hyde

I’m a big believer in Carlos Hyde’s talent, and the future of the Kyle Shanahan offense in San Francisco. But it wasn’t a good start against Carolina. They managed a total of three points, 217 yards (third-worst) and only 13 first downs. This week, they head to Seattle to face a Seahawks team in need of a bounceback win and it might be ugly.

Hyde actually managed a respectable five yards per carry (45 yards on nine carries), but it’s that lack of volume that’s a worry – and we can’t expect that to change while the team players against opponents who are likely to beat them comfortably. When the 49ers face the Rams in Week 3, you can plug him back in, but for now he’s a very risky play and every piece of the San Francisco should be sat down for this matchup unless you’re truly desperate.

Encouragingly, Hyde added six receptions for 32 yards against the Panthers, and when San Francisco are in games he’ll be a big factor and have a very heavy workload. Similarly, Pierre Garcon had six grabs for 81 yards and could be a weapon moving forward. But right now, the 49ers aren’t ready. Sit Hyde this week.
