30. Celtic

If Feyenoord should have been testing for City, Celtic Park should have been a fortress for the Scottish champions. Instead, PSG not only sacked the city, but they stormed the castle and swaggered out smiling and unscathed.

Celtic simply had no answer for the quality of arguably Europe’s most irresistible front three. Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani all scored against a defence with no clue how to stop them.

A team good enough to complete an unbeaten campaign last season also had next-to noting to offer in attack. It said everything about the gulf in quality between the two teams when Celtic’s best forays forward came from journeyman winger Scott Sinclair.

A club as dominant domestically as Celtic, one annually buoyed by Champions League money, should have the scouting framework to have added a few gems talented enough to boost their chances for opening night.

If there’s one consolation, meagre though it is for Celtic, it’s that not many teams will be able to live with PSG this season. Even so, the quality of the opposition can’t completely forgive such a limp performance from the Hoops.
