SEC power rankings, Week 3: Georgia wins in South Bend
By John Buhler
This could change very quickly depending on how the LSU game goes this week, but for now, we have to respect the job Dan Mullen, Nick Fitzgerald and the Mississippi State Bulldogs are doing. They are 2-0 and putting up a ton of points, albeit against lesser competition.
Mississippi State is also playing defense. While they have scored 106 points in the first two weeks, the Bulldogs have surrendered just 21. Though drawing No. 12 LSU in Week 3 is rough, this is usually the first big game of the year for Mississippi State. With LSU’s issues offensively, this might be a game where Mississippi State pulls off a huge SEC upset.
Well, the air in that Auburn Tigers hype balloon went out fast. After looking strong against Georgia Southern in Week 1, Auburn didn’t get into the end zone against the No. 3 Clemson Tigers. To be fair, Auburn did play the defending national champions on their turf and lost by eight.
However, Auburn continues to show it has serious offensive limitations against good defenses. The Tigers still have three huge rivalry games against maybe the three best SEC defenses in Alabama, Georgia and LSU left on the slate. Auburn should get back to their winning ways against Mercer on Saturday. This doesn’t feel like a College Football Playoff team down on The Plains sadly.
