Zach Randolph has reached a plea deal and had his marjiuana possession charges dropped.

Sacramento’s Zach Randolph has reached a plea deal in his marijuana case. Randolph’s felony possession with intent to sell charges are set to be dropped once he completes the deal.

The charges were reduced to misdemeanor possession and resisting arrest. However, Randolph will now plead no contest to resisting arrest and the marijuana charges will be dropped. As a consequence, Randolph has been sentenced to 150 hours community service. In addition, he must stay clean for 12 months. If Randolph manages that, neither conviction will appear on his record.

Ultimately, Randolph struck a deal here. He will presumably have both charges wiped from his record. And above all, he has no jail time. The 36-year-old could have spent up to one year in prison. Had that been the case, then there’s no telling what Randolph’s NBA future would have looked like.

But, that isn’t the case. The Kings forward heads into his 17th season in the NBA and his first contract year with Sacramento. The 6-foot-9 forward joined the Kings in the offseason, signing a two-year, $24-million deal from Memphis. In his last of eight seasons with the Grizzlies, Randolph averaged 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Over the course of his career, he averages 16.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

Although his numbers have decreased as of late, Randolph is still expected to play a big role with the Kings. Randolph’s role looks to be one of a veteran leader, alongside Vince Carter. However, unlike Carter, Randolph will start. Randolph brings maturity to a roster that includes the likes of De’Aaron Fox, Frank Mason III, Buddy Hield, Justin Jackson and Willie Cauley-Stein. Randolph looks to lead the young Kings team to a playoff push in the Western Conference.
