After the New Mexico versus Boise State game on smurf turf, there will be three games on Friday night before the bulk of the games on Saturday. One of those games happening on Friday night will be between the Arizona Wildcats and the UTEP Miners.

Arizona is 1-1 on the season. Though the won their home opener against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in a rout 62-24, the Wildcats lost a close game at home in Tucson to the Houston Cougars in Week 2, 19-16.
Arizona needs to get back to bowl eligibility for head coach Rich Rodriguez to feel good about his standing with the program. The Wildcats could wind up being the worst team in the Pac-12 if they can’t hang tough in conference play this season.
UTEP is 0-2 on the year. The Miners were thrashed by the Big 12 blue-blood Oklahoma Sooners in Norman 56-7 in Week 1. They did not get it done against the Rice Owls at home last week, 31-14. UTEP is not getting off to a great start this year and will have a tough challenge ahead on Friday night against an Arizona team needing a big win.
