The NFL season is still young but there are more than a few head coaches who are feeling the heat early.

Despite having months to improve their teams and get their strategies in place, the season began with a number of coaches needing decent seasons to hold their jobs in the NFL. If you began the season with a disappointing loss, you should already feel anxious about your standing.

NFL coaching jobs are constantly shifting, so a few tough games could leave a coach on the brink of firing. Most of the coaches on this list were lucky to hold their jobs over the offseason and are now holding on for dear life.

Let’s jump in and see who needs to turn it around instantly or risk becoming unemployed.

5. Todd Bowles, New York Jets

Todd Bowles has found little material success in his two seasons since joining the New York Jets and the team shows no signs of improving this season. It all went downhill for Bowles after turning down an interview to be the Oakland Raiders head coach. Jack Del Rio is now their coach and in a secure position.

The Jets were surprisingly decent in 2015, notching a 10-6 record and finishing second in the AFC East. However, that wasn’t enough to qualify for the NFL Playoffs. This season was definitely an improvement from a 4-12 record the year before. Bowles was showing promise, but nothing has gone right since.

Last season, the Jets finished 5-11 and last in their division. Ever since this disappointing year, Bowles has found himself on the brink of unemployment. Although, his early success was enough to maintain his job, New York is showing no signs of improving any time soon and the front office may be looking for a shift.

Bowles has resorted to blaming his defensive line for the team’s recent failures, per the New York Daily News. This came after a 21-12 loss to open the season in Buffalo.

The Jets play the Raiders on Sunday. If they are blown out, Todd Bowles could be on his way out of New York.
