Canelo vs. GGG should be one of the best fights in boxing history, but how much money will the Pride of Mexico Canelo Alvarez make?

It feels almost insufficient to say that the boxing world was torn about Mayweather-McGregor three weeks ago. That fight was more of a show than an actual high-stakes bout. Instead, many fans have looking forward to another fight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. And now that fight is here as Canelo vs. GGG will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16.

For Canelo Alvarez, this is undoubtedly the biggest fight of his life. He’s the Pride of Mexico and one of the best fighters still active today. However, defeating Gennady Golovkin would take him to the next level. GGG is undefeated and a legend in the ring, but the 27-year old beating him would change the landscape of the sport.

There is a chance that could happen too. While Golovkin is a lethal knockout artist (33 of his 37 victories by KO), he’s never faced someone with the technical ability of Alvarez. Canelo is an elite counter-puncher with great physical tools and precision. If he can avoid getting tagged, he could really deliver some damage in this fight.

With such a massive fight and with Alvarez’s Golden Boy Promotions being behind the fight, he’s set to be earn a massive paycheck for this fight. But the question is how much money is Canelo set to make for this fight?

Alvarez is guaranteed to make $20 million in this fight regardless of anything else, per The Telegraph. However, that number could rise dramatically if the pay-per-view sells the way it’s expected. Once that revenue comes in, the Mexican could clear $50 million for the fight.

Next: Canelo vs. GGG: Preview and prediction

Obviously these numbers are largely just estimates at this point, because we don’t know the pay-per-view numbers until after the fact. However, it’s hard to say that they won’t get top dollar. This fight is the talk of the town, so the projections should be accurate enough and Canelo should make quite the payday.
