Twitter predictably lost its mind after the Florida Gators took down the Tennessee Volunteers at the buzzer.

The Florida Gators beat the rival Tennessee Volunteers for the 12th time in 13 meetings on Saturday afternoon at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in one of the wildest games of the young college football season.

Predictably, neither team had anything resembling an offense in an ugly slugfest of a first half, with the Gators taking a 6-3 lead into the locker room. Mistakes in the red zone hurt Tennessee all game long, and a CJ Henderson pick six early in the fourth quarter to give Florida a 13-3 lead seemed to seal the game.

The Volunteers suddenly remembered to give the ball to running back John Kelly, and managed to cut the deficit to 13-9 with 8:45 to go. More Tennessee special teams miscues gave Florida a short field to set up the first offensive touchdown of the game for the Gators, but Tennessee roared back with 10 points in the final 4:51 to tie the game.

While the contest seemed destined to go to overtime, Florida allowed quarterback Feleipe Franks one last heave with nine second to go from its own 37-yard line. Franks unleashed a perfect downfield Hail Mary and hit Tyrie Cleveland in the end zone to seal a wild 26-20 Gators win at the buzzer, with Tennessee’s safeties nowhere to be seen.

Twitter was already going off and calling for both Butch Jones and Jim McElwain to be fired after the crazy finish following a frustrating game for both fanbases, and went even crazier with yet another Tennessee contest coming down to the last play. Here are the best Twitter reactions from Saturday’s matchup that went from dull to likely the best game of the weekend over the course of five minutes.

The Gators will travel to Kentucky for a possible trap game next weekend, while Tennessee should be able to bounce back against UMass.
