The fight between Canelo and GGG has finally come on Saturday, Sept. 16, but how many career knockouts does Gennady Golovkin have coming into it?

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have both enjoyed phenomenal careers to this point. The former is just 27 years old and already has 51 professional fights under his belt and a number of accolades to his credit. Meanwhile, GGG has been considered one of the best for a decade now, proving it time and again on his way to a 37-0-0 record. That’s the way things stand heading into Saturday, Sept. 16 and the fight between these two at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Golovkin has undoubtedly made his way through numerous highly talented opponents to this point. However, the challenge that Alvarez presents is unlike any other. Canelo may have one loss on his record (unanimous decision to Floyd Mayweather), but Alvarez is clearly one of the very best in the world and perhaps one of the all-time greats.

Of course, GGG’s résumé to this point is pretty staggering. He obviously has the unbeaten record entering this fight, but there’s more to it than that. Golovkin has been one of the best ever in terms of how often he’s knocked his opponents out. That then begs the question, how many knockouts does GGG have coming into the fight on Saturday?

To date, 33 of Golovkin’s 37 victories have come by way of knockout. That alone is impressive, but even more so was his streak of 23-straight knockout victories that lasted from November 2008 until March 18 of this year when he went to decision with Daniel Jacobs. For what it’s worth, Alvarez has 34 career knockouts, but the rate is obviously heavily in favor of GGG.

No one is going to question that GGG is the better knockout artist in this fight. The numbers bare that out pretty clearly. However, this bout may not be about that alone as technical ability and stamina will also be pivotal in determining a winner. That being said, it’s clear that one punch from Golovkin could send everyone home.
