How could the College Football Rankings look after Week 3?

After Saturday night’s action, Week 3 of the college football season is over. It provided some dramatics, as well as a blowout game between two of the top teams in the ACC. USC vs. Texas also delivered as a thriller in Southern California.

It’s still early in the season, but all game results still impact the potential College Football Rankings. There are a few weeks to go before the College Football Playoff Rankings are revealed but, for now, it’s to see how everything looks in the nation and where everyone stands at September’s midway point.

How does the College Football Rankings look after Week 3? Let’s take a look:

  1. Alabama
  2. Oklahoma
  3. Clemson
  4. USC
  5. Penn State
  6. Washington
  7. Michigan
  8. Oklahoma State
  9. Ohio State
  10. Wisconsin
  11. Florida State
  12. Georgia
  13. Auburn
  14. Virginia Tech
  15. Miami
  16. Stanford *Note: Stanford in a tight one late against SDSU at time of writing
  17. TCU
  18. Washington State

The projected top five is the same as the latest AP Poll. With all five having won their respective games, there’s no reason to have any of them move. USC barely survived, however, as Texas took them to a second overtime, before winning on a field goal.

Louisville takes a steep fall down the rankings. They go from No. 14 to No. 23, after getting crushed by Clemson at home.

Memphis had a shootout with UCLA, winning, 48-45. It should get them ranked, whether it’s at No. 22 or somewhere in the 20’s range.

LSU was beaten down by Mississippi State, and should fall out of the polls. It will take a statement win for them to make up the ground they lost.

Outside of these teams, most of the top 25 look similar to the recent AP Poll. There wasn’t a dramatic loss from any of the top 10 teams, so most of them remained the same, with the exception of Oklahoma State, as they leapfrogged Ohio State.
