The Minnesota Vikings ruled starting quarterback Sam Bradford out against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a knee injury. Case Keenum will start.

After having one of the best games of his career against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, Sam Bradford will now be watching, injured, from the sidelines. Bradford, who has twice missed season with a torn ACL., is now nursing a sore knee.

The Minnesota Vikings are going with Case Keenum against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field, something that feels like a huge mismatch without Bradford on the field. Against New Orleans, Bradford completed 27-of-32 for 346 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.

Minnesota believes that Bradford will only miss Week 2, but there is no guarantee. Bradford, as mentioned, has a long injury history and reports are already surfacing that Bradford’s MRI showed so much scar tissue, that it was impossible to determine if his ACL remain intact.

Without Bradford, any hopes of a postseason trip seem like a pipe dream. Minnesota has one of the best defenses in the league with players like Linval Joseph, Harrison Smith, Xavier Rhodes and Danielle Hunter, but the offense would be handcuffed. All of this is too bad, considering how good the Vikings looked in their season opener.

At 29 years old, hopefully Bradford can get back on the field an play well. His contract is due to expire after this season, and a good campaign could get him a huge payday. However, if the injury is serious and Bradford has to be shelved, it’s hard to see any team offering more than a one-year deal in terms of guarantees.
