Updated NFL standings, playoff picture: Week 2

Now that we’re two weeks through the NFL season, let’s take a look at the standings and the playoff picture for all the teams in the league.

Week 2 was just as great as the opening week of the NFL season. While there were a ton of low-scoring battles across the league, there were still a fair amount of close games that went down to the wire.

There are eight teams in the NFL that still haven’t lost through two weeks and the crazy part is that three of those squads belong to the AFC West. The crazy thing is that the Chargers could very well be 2-0 if their kicker, Younghoe Koo, doesn’t miss field goals at the end of games.

The New York Giants are a surprising 0-2, while the Lions are a surprise team atop the NFC North. Atlanta and Carolina lead the NFC South, while the Dolphins are the leaders of the AFC East after playing only one game.

Here’s what the NFL Standings look like after the first two games:

AFC East

  1. Miami Dolphins (1-0)
  2. Buffalo Bills (1-1)
  3. New England Patriots (1-1)
  4. New York Jets (0-2)

The biggest surprise here is that the Dolphins are 1-0, but does anyone think the Patriots don’t win this division? Give it some time, as New England will be back in front in no time. The Dolphins won a close game against the Chargers, while the Bills lost an ugly matchup against the Panthers. The Jets continue to tank, losing badly against the Raiders.

AFC North

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0)
  2. Baltimore Ravens (2-0)
  3. Cleveland Browns (0-2)
  4. Cincinnati Bengals (0-2)

The cream of the crop in the AFC North in years past continues to be just that. Baltimore and Pittsburgh lead the way to nobody’s surprise. The Browns dropped their Week 2 matchup against the Ravens, while the Bengals floundered against the Texans. Pittsburgh took care of business against a Sam Bradford-less Vikings’ team.

AFC South

  1. Tennessee Titans (1-1)
  2. Jacksonille Jaguars (1-1)
  3. Houston Texans (1-1)
  4. Indianapolis Colts (0-2)

The Titans won their first game of the season against Jacksonville, while Deshaun Watson led the Texans to their first win of the season. The Colts look like lifeless without Andrew Luck and hence they’re 0-2. As long as he stays out, I don’t think Indianapolis wins very many games.

AFC West

  1. Denver Broncos (2-0)
  2. Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)
  3. Oakland Raiders (2-0)
  4. Los Angeles Chargers (0-2)

Now, the best division in football: the AFC West. There are three teams at 2-0, with the Broncos hammering the Cowboys at home, the Chiefs edging past the Eagles and Raiders pounding the lifeless Jets. The Chargers took another tough loss as rookie kicker Younghoe Koo couldn’t come through with a last-second field goal.

NFC East

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)
  2. Dallas Cowboys (1-1)
  3. Washington Redskins (1-1)
  4. New York Giants (0-2)

The biggest surprise in this division has to be the New York Giants. Many predicted the Giants would win the NFC East, but two games in and they’re win-less. Odell Beckham Jr.’s injury and Eli Manning’s drop off has caused the Giants to lose their first two games. The Eagles and Cowboys dropped their Week 2 matchups on the road, while the Redskins won a last-second game in Los Angeles.

NFC North

  1. Detroit Lions (2-0)
  2. Minnesota Vikings (1-1)
  3. Green Bay Packers (1-1)
  4. Chicago Bears (0-2)

The Lions sit atop the NFC North behind Matthew Stafford’s brilliance and two big wins. The Vikings fell in Pittsburgh without Sam Bradford and Green Bay couldn’t handle Atlanta’s offense. The Bears continue to look horrible with Mike Glennon and fell again in Week 2.

NFC South

  1. Atlanta Falcons (2-0)
  2. Carolina Panthers (2-0)
  3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-0)
  4. New Orleans Saints (0-2)

The Saints had the toughest start, losing the Monday Night Football game against the Vikings and taking on a motivated Patriots team. The Buccaneers won their first matchup against Chicago, while the Panthers won a low-scoring battle over the Bills. The Falcons dominated the Packers on Sunday Night Football.

NFC West

  1. Seattle Seahawks (1-1)
  2. Arizona Cardinals (1-1)
  3. Los Angeles Rams (1-1)
  4. San Francisco 49ers (0-2)

The 49ers lost a close game at Seattle, dropping them to 0-2 under Kyle Shanahan. The Seahawks looked beatable on Sunday, but won nonetheless. The Cardinals won in OT over the Colts and the Rams lost a last-second game against the Redskins.
