There has been a negative development in the injury saga of LSU running back Derrius Guice.

According to LSU head coach Ed Orgeron, Derrius Guice is “very questionable” to play in the Tigers Week 4 contest against Syracuse.

Guice suffered his injury late in the third quarter of a devastating 37-7 loss to Mississippi State. It looked to be a left knee ailment and the star running back hasn’t practice all week.

Orgeron added, “I don’t know if Derrius is going to play. He didn’t dress out yesterday in pads.”

This is the first time that Orgeron has been candid about Guice’s status. Throughout the week, the LSU head coach has downplayed how severe the injury was in hopes that he would be available come Saturday. He even went so far as to categorize it as a “minor injury” on Wednesday in the SEC coaches teleconference to reporters.

The junior was putting a together a solid season before succumbing to this injury. On 57 carries, Guice has run for 300 yards and four touchdowns. He is fourth in the SEC in rushing and led the conference last season with 1,387 yards.

Darrel Williams is LSU’s second-string running back. On 28 carries, he’s run for 159 yards and four touchdowns. Losing Guice won’t be too bad for LSU since they have such a good runner next in line.

That being said, as SEC play continues, it will be important for LSU that they get their top rusher back.

Luckily, this game shouldn’t be too difficult for LSU. They are favored by 21.5 points over the Orange, so Guice’s absence shouldn’t matter too much. Additionally, it may be smart for him to sit out and rest instead of risking further injury.

However, it is unclear whether or not this injury may be serious enough for Guice to miss more time after Week 4.
