After being initially ruled out, Derrius Guice will suit up for the LSU Tigers in Saturday night’s game against the Syracuse Orange.

After being initially reported as out for Saturday night’s home game against the Syracuse Orange, LSU Tigers star junior running back Derrius Guice will indeed suit up to play in the team’s fourth game of the season.

The 5-foot-11, 212-pound running back came into the season as one of the front-runners to win the Heisman Trophy. He averaged 8.5 yards per carry for 436 yards and three touchdowns in 2015 as the backup to Leonard Fournette, who is now the starting running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars after an impressive college career that allowed him to be the 4th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Last year, Guice saw more playing time with Fournette missing six games due to injury, and he continued to impress. On just 183 carries, he rushed the ball for a total of 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns, giving him an astonishing yards per carry average of 7.6 and causing many fans to toss him into the best running back discussion along with Penn State’s Saquon Barkley entering this season.

So far this season, Guice has been solid, but he has not yet lived up to the lofty expectations set forth for him. He has averaged a career-low 5.3 yards per carry through three games and has 300 yards and four touchdowns.

While those numbers haven’t made him a focal point of the Heisman talk, he hasn’t been terrible, so a big game could shoot him right back up into the mix. The question is, is he really going to be healthy and ready to go on Saturday night?

The No. 25 LSU Tigers (2-1) are set to host the Syracuse Orange (2-1) this Saturday night at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN after a disappointing blowout loss on the road at the hands of the No. 17 Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-0). How will Guice perform this weekend?
