Once again, we are getting ready to see the New York Jets welcome the Miami Dolphins on Sunday afternoon. Which AFC East team prevails in this contest?

A year ago, the Miami Dolphins sat with a 1-4 record after five games and the team looked like it was headed for another non-losing season. Then came running back Jay Ajayi and a 9-2 finish resulted in a 10-6 record and the franchise’s first playoff appearance since 2008.

Speaking of the postseason, we haven’t seen the New York Jets play any extra games in a season since 2010. And judging by the way the club has started in 2017, Todd Bowles’ team doesn’t look like a playoff contender. Could this be the week that the Green and White turns things around?

Odds

Line: Dolphins (-6)

Over/Under: 41.5

Including the playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2016 AFC Wild Card Game, the Dolphins are a mere 5-5 in their last 10 road contests. They’re a somewhat surprising six-point favorite in this setting (via SportsBook Review). But this seems to reflect more on the Jets and their shaky start.

We have only seen the Miami Dolphins once this season and it resulted in a road victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. And this is an interesting few weeks for Gase’s squad as their trip to MetLife Stadium is followed by an overseas trip to London to clash with the New Orleans Saints. That means the Dolphins can’t afford to look past a New York team that has struggled out of the gate. The Jets will make this more interesting than people think. But this is a Miami team showing some early resiliency.

Pick: Dolphins 26, Jets 14
