Phoenix Suns sign Anthony Bennett to non-guaranteed contract

Former number one overall pick Anthony Bennett has found a new home.
The 2013 number one overall pick Anthony Bennett is now on his fourth different team in as many years. The Phoenix Suns have signed him to a non-guaranteed contract.
Training camp for the Suns starts on Sept. 26, and Bennett will be trying to make the roster heading into the 2017-18 season.
Nobody likes to immediately label a player as a bust, but unfortunately that’s where we’re at with Bennett. Drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2013, he was supposed to really help out Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters. It never panned out.
On the bright side, had Bennett not been bad maybe the Cavaliers don’t end up with the 2014 number one pick, and get the ball rolling on a team that won Cleveland it’s first ever NBA title.
If you don’t remember, that number one pick turned out to be Andrew Wiggins who was subsequently traded to Minnesota for Kevin Love.
It might be a tall task for Bennett to actually make the Suns roster this season as they are a team in rebuild. The youth movement has completely taken over, and with guys like Marquese Chriss, Alex Len, Alan Williams, Dragan Bender and first-round draft pick Josh Jackson on the roster it’ll be an uphill battle for him.

On the flip side Bennett does have a little bit of veteran experience. Four years in the league, and bouncing from team to team does put a few miles on you, and he’s been on teams with some solid veterans. So he might be able to help the young guys. Remember, Bennett is still only 24 years old, and has a lot of basketball left in him. Here’s hoping it’s good basketball.
