Now that the Suns have a timeline, what should their goals be?

The Suns are going to be bad. They were very bad last year, and actually wish they could’ve been worse. But never fear good people, they now have a rallying cry and #brand: THE TIMELINE. Is that a cheap Asylum Films-style knockoff of Philadelphia’s THE PROCESS? Certainly. Hey — whatever helps you sleep, er, buy season tickets.

So what is The Timeline? Well, ownership claims they are building towards 2020 (despite being linked to free agent pursuits of Paul Millsap, LeMarcus Aldridge and more). Presumably, The Timeline means standing by their young guys and concentrating on the big picture. After winning 48 games unexpectedly in 2013-14, the prevailing notion is this caused management to lose focus. Made them think they were closer to competing than they were.

Now Phoenix has a both a slogan and a collection of lottery talent from the years of losing. But despite the incredibly young core, ESPN Insider recently ranked them 26th of of 30 in their future power rankings. So even if they stick to The Timeline is there any guarantee they’ll be on the path to winning?

To help find out, Greg Esposito (@espo) joins the latest episode of Fastbreak Breakfast. Greg covers the Suns for Sports360AZ.com and co-hosts the Solar Panel podcast. How does he think The Timeline will play out? What should be the goals for this upcoming season? And how good is Devin Booker really?
