Louisville comes into this game after a tough loss against one of the best teams in the country in Clemson. They came into the contest with hopes of shocking the Tigers, but lost 47-21. The Cardinals need to use this likely easy win over Kent State to improve their defense. Louisville has missed Jaire Alexander big time in the secondary and will need to work on coverage without him. However, Bobby Petrino is “encouraged” by the cornerback’s progress, so he could make an appearance come Saturday. Louisville’s offense has been stellar in their first three games. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson hasn’t missed a beat to start the season. He’s already thrown for 1,088 yards, eight touchdowns, and just one interception. Additionally, he leads the team in rushing with 303 yards and three touchdowns. Offense was not the issue against Clemson with Jackson throwing for 317 yards and three touchdowns. However, they gave up a ridiculous 613 yards of offense to the Tigers. Louisville should come into this outing looking for ways to get better as conference play nears.

On the other hand, Kent State has been disappointing in the early going this season. Like Louisville, the Golden Flashes also lost to Clemson. Additionally, they have lost to Marshall, but did find a way to win against Howard in Week 2. They have yet to find a consistent quarterback following the loss of Nick Holley, splitting time between Dustin Crum and George Bollas. Neither have quite found their way yet this season. Against Marshall, they combined for 117 yards and an interception on 41.1 percent passing. Holley was a bright spot for this team before getting banged up in last week’s loss. He was the team’s leading passer and rusher. In fact, he had 100 more rushing yards than passing yards before succumbing to injury. Not only is the Kent State offense mediocre, their defense equally awful. They allowed 665 yards in their 56-3 loss to Clemson to open the season. Even in their single win of the season, they were out gained by Howard. Barring a miracle, Kent State is going to be blown out against Louisville
