Carmelo Anthony has been traded from the New York Knicks to the Oklahoma City Thunder and these are the winners and the losers from the trade.

So much for this being the dead period of the NBA offseason. Normally August and most of September are dedicated to looking forward to the upcoming season, not breaking news. However, during this period we’ve seen the Kyrie Irving trade and now another superstar on the move.

The haul for Carmelo Anthony is young established players Enes Kanter and Doug McDermott, and the Bulls 2018 second round pick, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. The disgruntled Knicks star agreed to waive his no-trade clause to make the deal possible.

Many assumed the destination would be Cleveland because Anthony is a close friend of LeBron James and the two have already expressed interest in wanting to play together. According to Wojnarowski, Anthony was courted heavily by his new teammates Russell Westbrook and Paul George. The Thunder have now formed a new big three in the NBA.

Anthony joins George as newcomers to the Thunder. George was traded earlier this offseason for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis. OKC will now play a starting five that includes the three former All-Stars who will be paired with up and coming center Steven Adams and defensive ace Andre Roberson.

With news of the trade breaking in the middle of a college football Saturday, there is no doubt plenty around the league are going to be shocked. The decision by Anthony to open up the teams he is willing to play for moved this along quickly. As with any trade, there are winners and losers of the deal. The following slides will go through the five biggest.
