Here’s what to watch for when the No. 24 Mississippi State Bulldogs take on the No. 13 Auburn Tigers on Saturday night.

A pair of ranked SEC West teams with plenty of questions to answer will clash when the No. 24 Mississippi State Bulldogs take on the No. 13 Auburn Tigers on Saturday evening at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Previously unranked Mississippi State shot up all the way to No. 16 in the AP Poll in week three following a dominating victory over an LSU team that was thought to be a national championship contender. The hype train crashed just a week later, as the Bulldogs were overwhelmed early on by Georgia en route to a 31-3 loss.

For the third straight year, an Auburn team with high expectations was dealt an early blow in a 14-6 loss to Clemson that saw its offense generate 117 total yards while allowing 11 sacks. The Tigers have since struggled against Mercer, although they were able to put away sliding Missouri early last Saturday in a 51-14 win.

Both Auburn and Mississippi State have a lot of talent but have looked awful against better competition, so it’s hard to gauge exactly where either team stands through four weeks. There’s plenty on the line for the two teams, as Saturday’s winner will be in the best position to finish second in the SEC West and perhaps reach a New Year’s Six bowl.

TV Schedule

Date: Saturday, September 30
Start Time: 6:00 p.m. ET
Location: Auburn, AL
Stadium: Jordan-Hare Stadium
TV Info: ESPN
Live Stream: WatchESPN, fuboTV

CBS will be heading to Knoxville for the SEC game of the week between Georgia and Tennessee, so Saturday’s matchup will kick off at 6:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN. Jordan-Hare will be rocking for a ranked conference game at night, meaning Mississippi State will have to deal with its second straight hostile environment.

Betting odds

Spread: AUB -9
O/U: 47.5
Moneyline: MSST +321, AUB -380

Auburn is predictably a home favorite, but a 9-point spread per Sportsbook Review between the two flawed teams might be a little steep for most bettors. Given the performances by both offenses against better competition this year, it’s not surprising that oddsmakers have the over/under at a mere 47.5 points.
