2018 NFL Mock Draft: With Jets win, QB no longer guaranteed
By Brad Weiss
The Cincinnati Bengals have been one of the biggest disappointments of the early season, and it could mean the end for head coach Marvin Lewis. The Bengals struggled mightily during the first two weeks, though they actually played better in Week 3. They gave the Green Bay Packers all they could handle, but eventually, ended up blowing a pretty sizable lead inside Lambeau Field.
Cincinnati needs help on both sides of the ball, and while Andy Dalton has not set the world on fire this season, they will likely stick with him under center. The team could select the first defensive player off the board, and that should be safety Derwin James. James has the talent to lead a secondary, and would give the team a true leader in their defensive backfield.
James and the Seminoles secondary looked bad against NC State this past weekend, but that won’t change his draft status. He has been through a lot during his time at Florida State, and will come into the league NFL ready. The Bengals are struggling to get stops this season, especially through the air, making drafting a defensive back a necessity at this point.
