Packers running back Ty Montgomery left the game against the Bears on Thursday night and apparently suffered broken ribs.

Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery suffered a chest injury in the first quarter on Thursday night against the Chicago Bears. He played for a little while after suffering the injury, but eventually head back to the locker room top be evaluated.

Well it appears those evaluations are done for now, and the news is not positive coming out. A short time ago, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that it was found Montgomery had suffered some broken ribs and would not be returning to the game on Thursday night against the rival Bears.

While he was in the game, Montgomery was being used as a focal point in the offense, carrying the ball five times for 28 yards before he was forced to depart. Moving primarily to running back this year, Montgomery had 124 yards on 41 carries with two touchdowns on the young season.

With the Packers inexperienced at the running back position, this is probably one of the worst injuries the team could have asked for at this point. Montgomery’s versatility, as a former wide receiver, helped this offense and quarterback Aaron Rodgers do many productive things. Now, there’s no telling how long they will be without the Stanford product going forward with the broken ribs.

The Packers came out on Thursday night opening up a quick 14-0 first quarter lead, mainly by capitalizing on mistakes the Bears made. Following the first quarter, the game was delayed due to some lightning in the area, but it has since resumed as the teams work to halftime in Green Bay.
