The Washington State Cougars are one of the most underrated teams in college football, but mullet man has won more hearts than any player ever could.

Friday night was a massive opportunity for the Washington State Cougars. Entering their matchup at 4-0, they welcomed also undefeated USC Trojans to Pullman, WA. A win for the Cougars would mean insertion into the national conversation in a real way. On top of that, a win over a No. 5 ranked USC team is something that’s always a nice feather in the cap.

However, Washington State may have also gained the next internet sensation on Friday night as well. No, it wasn’t Luke Falk or any of the other young men that took the field. Instead, it was a man calmly standing in the stands.

More specifically, it was a man in Wazzu garb standing calmly in the stands. To describe him perfectly, this man also happened to have the most glorious mullet that college football has seen this side of Mike Gundy. Thus, mullet man was born and a nation fell in love:

If we had to ask him for his thoughts about the game, one would have to guess that he’d offer sage wisdom like “college football’s a garden, dig it” or a list of fireworks that Falk and the Cougars offense should look like when they’re rolling. The point being, get this man a microphone as soon as possible.

As mullet man was becoming an internet sensation, though, he was also giving Washington State some pretty good mojo. Despite the Trojans looking fierce out of the gates, the Cougars tightened up on defense and kept the pace. A nice two-minute drill tied the game up at 17 apiece going into halftime, a big score to keep Wazzu in the mix with only 30 minutes remaining.
