49ers at Cardinals: Highlights, score and recap
The NFC West had two of its members do battle on Sunday afternoon in Week 4 when the 49ers and Cardinals faced off in Glendale. Who came out on top?
This game was absolutely awful, but if you enjoy games with nine field goals and the lone touchdown coming in overtime, you probably would’ve liked this game between the Arizona Cardinals and San Francisco 49ers.
The two teams scored just 12 points each through four quarters, all on field goals, and it still wasn’t enough to decide a winner. The game went to overtime, where the 49ers took a 15-12 lead on a chip shot field goal from Robbie Gould late.
The Cardinals then finally put some excitement in the game, as they scored on a pass from Carson Palmer to Larry Fitzgerald to win 18-15. While there weren’t many highlights, here are the lone few from overtime from the game below:
Three Stars
1. Phil Dawson
It’s pretty bad when a kicker is your top star in a game, but when both teams score 12 points each in four quarters, and all of them are field goals, you don’t have any other choice. Dawson went 4-for-4 for the Cardinals in regulation, with a 50-yarder to his name, and he controlled all of the Cardinals’ scoring throughout the game to set them up for the win in overtime.
2. Robbie Gould
Same goes for Gould as it does for the top star. When you are the sole source of the scoring for your team, you deserve to be a star. As rare as it may be for a kicker to be the star of a game, how about when the other team’s kicker is the second star in the game? A 5-for-5 performance will do that, and it still wasn’t enough for a win.
3. Larry Fitzgerald
Fitzgerald probably has a case to be made to be called the top star of the game. He scored the game-winning touchdown, of course, but I like kickers. So sue me. Maybe next time he can score a touchdown in regulation so we don’t have to sit through a game like that ever again.

Odds
The Cardinals were favored -7.5, according to SportsBook Review, and it’s tough to match up with that when you can’t score a touchdown in regulation. They didn’t match what many expected, but still got the win either way.
Next Week
The Cardinals will travel to play the Philadelphia Eagles next week, while the 49ers will continue to look for their first win against the Indianapolis Colts on the road.
