Jaylen Brown planning on releasing album, Jaythoven
By Joe Romano
The Celtics’ Jaylen Brown is not just a basketball player. The young wing will be releasing a hip-hop album.
Jaylen Brown is using his spare time away from the court in the studio. The second year wing for the Boston Celtics will be releasing an album titled Jaythoven.
Brown told ABC Sports, “They call me Jaythoven cause I be on the keys. ATL stand up.”
A native of Georgia, Brown has hip-hop roots. He has a relationship with Gucci Mane and Future, both Atlanta rappers. Even while in Boston, Brown remains Atlanta proud. An interview with SLAM magazine in January of this year shed some light on Brown’s music. The post features a beat by the former third overall pick. It also dives into when and how Brown makes music.
Jaythoven will be our first glimpse at hearing Brown on the mic. Previously we only heard him as a producer dropping beats. For Celtics fans who are worried that Brown’s love of music will distract him on the court, he’s dedicated to his professional craft.
"“I have full investment in my basketball,” he says. “It comes first”—but he hasn’t been scared to associate himself with the local music scene in every city the game has taken him to."
The young player is just another sports figure that is jumping into the music business in his spare time. Fellow NBA player Damian Lillard of the Portland Trailblazers is heavily involved in hip hop.
Lillard is set to release his second album under his alias Dame D.O.L.L.A. The first track was released featuring hip-hop star Lil Wayne a week ago. Dame’s album, titled “Confirmed”, comes out on Oct. 6.

Brown will hope to get the respect in both avenues like Lillard has. The young player is a promising basketball prospect. It’s yet to be seen if he will be a promising young rapper.
