The National League Wild Card game was a wild one, but the Arizona Diamondbacks held on and will now head to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers in the NLDS.

As soon as the field was announced for the 2017 MLB Playoffs, it was clear that a sizeable portion of the playoffs would be a contest between National League West division rivals. The only question was would it be the Colorado Rockies or the Arizona Diamondbacks that held on in the NL Wild Card Game to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will move on to the five-game National League Division Series against division rival Los Angeles Dodgers in LA on Friday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 p.m. ET on TBS. As was the case in the NLWC, the NLDS games will be a matchup between two National League West teams.

For NL West fans, the 2017 season has seen the division turn into an unexpected game of musical chairs as the top three spots in the standings alternated between the Rockies and Diamondbacks for the better part of the first half of the season before the Dodgers turned on the heat and cemented their place at the top of the standings. With the Dodgers in first place for the second half of the season, it became a fight for second place between the Diamondbacks (93-69) and Rockies (87-75). Both teams had banner seasons that would have been good for first place if not for the Dodgers’ impressive 104 wins.

The National League Division Series between the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks promises to be a good one, as Arizona has had success against Los Angeles in the regular season and the Dodgers’ bats have been less reliable lately. That means there is an opportunity there for a playoff upset.
