In somewhat of a shocker, Corey Kluber didn’t last long against the Yankees on Friday, thanks to this bomb from Aaron Hicks.

Everything was aligned perfectly for the Cleveland Indians on Friday. After soundly defeating the New York Yankees 4-0 in Game 1 of the ALDS on Thursday, they were at home again for Game 2 looking to extend their series lead, and they were sending one of the best pitchers in the game to the bump in Corey Kluber. Really, the defending AL champs could not have asked for anything more.

Well, as we’ve learned countless times, things don’t go 100 percent according to plan in sports all the time, and the Indians found that out on Thursday.

If we would have told you that Kluber would not make it past the third inning against the Yankees, you’d think we were nuts. But that’s what happened, as the ace was bounced after going 2.2 innings while giving up six earned runs and seven hits. And it was this at-bat right here that knocked him out of the game earlier than anyone expected, a three-run homer off the bat of Aaron Hicks that gave the Yankees a 6-3 lead.

Everyone has bad outings here and there, and this is exactly what happened to Kluber on Friday. Did it happen at the best time? No, not by any means, but it happened nonetheless and the Indians had to dip into their bullpen much earlier than expected in Game 2.

As for the Yankees, however, things could not have gone better. After an abysmal performance at the plate in Game 1, this explosive offense appears to have come back to life here in the second game of the series.
