Oakland Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio tells media it is ’embarrassing’ to have team play on baseball field. That changes now that baseball is done.

The Oakland Raiders share a field with the MLB Athletics, and for that reason, the baseball diamond can still be seen when the Raiders take the field in the early part of the season.

Many stadiums and ballparks have their own unique character; the ivy-covered brick wall in the outfield of Wrigley Field, the hedges surrounding the field Georgia’s Sanford Stadium, the massive video board of the venue lovingly called the “Jerry World” in Dallas.

But, then you have the Oakland Coliseum, which features the Athletics in baseball and the Raiders in football. What does that mean? The field is laid out for both games. Dirt is down for the baseball diamond until the MLB season is over.

Well, it is over for the Oakland Athletics, and Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio is thrilled.

In an interview with Michael Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Del Rio stated his true thoughts on the matter.

"I don’t know if I’d call it a benefit. It’s the way it should be. It should be grass all the time. Hopefully, they’ll get that rectified going forward because frankly it’s a little embarrassing to play on the cinder block. We’ll tolerate it when we have to, but we’re definitely looking forward to having a full field of grass."

Not sure who that is directed to. I mean, the field has been shared between the two league every season both have been in Oakland since 1966. Additionally, the Raiders are on their way out of the state anyway.

Starting in 2019, the Raiders will no longer be in California as they move to Las Vegas. The second professional sports team to move to the City of Lights, following the Vegas Golden Knights of the NHL this season, the Raiders hope to fill a new $2 billion stadium. Let’s hope Del Rio likes that one.
