Odell Beckham, suffered a fractured ankle in the Giants loss to the Chargers, but how long will he be out?

New York Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr was carted off the field on Sunday, following what looked to be a brutal injury. The initial fear was that Beckham had broken his leg, but that ended up not being the case.

The team announced after the game that he had fractured his ankle,

First, we need to establish a timeline of events, because it got messy once reports started to fly out of the Giants locker room. Before we get into this, it needs to be stressed that the only information we can take officially is that the team said Beckham suffered a fractured ankle.

  • It was reported that Odell needed surgery. That hasn’t been confirmed.
  • Reports spread that he had broken his leg. This wasn’t true.

If Beckham needs surgery, that will likely lengthen the amount of time he’s out. It will also probably ensure the best possible outcome as far as strengthening his leg.

We’re looking at a recovery time of at least six weeks for Beckham, but there are a variety of factors that go into this. For starters, the Giants aren’t going to be in a position to compete by the time Beckham is slated to come back, which takes away any incentive to rush him back.

November 12th is the earliest date Beckham could realistically look at coming back. That’s if everything goes well, which is no guarantee. He already had an ankle issue so rushing him back again is something Beckham himself might not sign off on.

All signs point to Beckham being out for the remainder of the season. Even if he can come back, there’s no point to it in a lost season. Odell’s best years are still ahead of him, and that’s what is trying to be preserved by sacrificing the rest of this season to fully recover.
