Washington State head coach Mike Leach hilariously detailed how he would expand the College Football Playoff.
The topic of potential College Football Playoff expansion will never go away, and it’s always interesting to hear the thoughts of some of the top coaches at the FBS level. Now as far as getting thoughts from some of the top coaches in the game, it’s without a doubt always a joy when we get some insight from Washington State Cougars head coach Mike Leach.
So you’d have to imagine that his thoughts on potential College Football Playoff expansion would be quite thrilling, and guess what? We got to find out that when it comes to expanding the current playoff system, Leach definitely has some thoughts.
During his conference on Tuesday, Leach went on this amazing rant about the subject that lasted a little over 10 minutes. Yes, Mike Leach going on a 10-minute rant about the College Football Playoff is as great as you imagine.
Now before anyone laughs, Leach did bring up some pretty good points here. Okay, him saying that 64 teams would be ideal is a bit of a stretch — even though he’s not the only one who wants that, for some reason — but he did bring that number down to a logical 16, which seems to be a thought shared by many when it comes to expanding the system. He then also pointed out how college football sort of concedes the month of December to the NFL, when during that time they could be having playoff contests each week leading up to the title game.
Overall, though, he was basically pointing out how it wouldn’t be that difficult to set up an expanded system because everyone else does it besides the FBS level. And really, the ol’ Pirate Man here is correct.
