NFL quarterback rankings, Week 6: Alex Smith for MVP
The NFL season remains young, but Alex Smith is showing that he belongs not only in the MVP conversation, but at the head of it.
For those who don’t know, these rankings are calculated using a combination of past performance, current play and projected showing in the future.

32. Matt Cassel (Prev: NA)
Somebody stop this madness. Cassel seems like a great guy, but it’s time to stop putting him on rosters. He couldn’t beat Jay Cutler, who threw for 96 yards.
31. Kevin Hogan (Prev: NA)
Hogan looked good in the second half against the Jets, but he’s not the future in Cleveland. It would be a major upset if Hogan starts the rest of the way.
30. Blake Bortles (Prev: 28)
Bortles threw for 95 yards and an interception against the Steelers. If the Jaguars had a real quarterback, they would be a legitimate contender in the AFC.
29. Jacoby Brissett (Prev: 28)
Brissett has thrown for 997 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions thus far. He’s the epitome of a backup quarterback.
