Coming out of WWE Hell in a Cell, wrestling fans around the world wanted to know one thing: why did Sami Zayn help Kevin Owens win at Hell in a Cell? On SmackDown Live, Zayn offered that anticipated explanation.
A lot that happened at the Hell in a Cell event on Sunday got WWE fans talking. However, no storyline brought out more discussion than what closed the show. Sami Zayn, a beloved fan favorite, provided an assist to Kevin Owens. That assist allowed for Owens to defeat SmackDown Live commissioner Shane McMahon. Fans asked many questions, considering that Owens and Zayn don’t have the peachiest of histories together. The main question, however, was simply just “Why?”
Fans got their answer to that question on Tuesday night. Zayn met Owens in the ring on SmackDown Live in Grand Rapids. Owens said Zayn was his “guardian angel” because of the save he made. And so, it was Sami’s turn to speak. Then, the man who gained so much notoriety for doing the right thing explained why he did the right thing.

Sami’s explanation pretty much hit all the notes. And it’s hard to deny anything that he said. SmackDown Live is “The Land of Opportunity” according to Shane McMahon. Did Sami get a lot of opportunities to showcase himself? Compared to the likes of many, not much. His mistreatment on Monday Night Raw drew the ire of many WWE fans, and Sami himself as he said. Again, a very hard point to deny. So much so that many fans hoped he would go to SmackDown Live. These desires, though, have inarguably been left unfulfilled.
Zayn made it a point to say that Owens, no matter what has happened, has always been his brother. And that doing the right thing — something that he prided himself — was important to him in this case. Even if it meant saving Kevin Owens, a man who has physically and mentally destroyed him in the past.

This certainly has a chance to be an absolutely compelling angle if done right. On the first night, they did it right. Going forward, it will be nothing if not intriguing and fascinating to watch.
