The Las Vegas Golden Knights have their home opener on Tuesday night and have made a nice gesture in the wake of the mass shooting last week.
The Knights have had a nice start to their inaugural season, winning their first two games on the road. Headlined by goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, the Knights beat the Dallas Stars and the Arizona Coyotes by identical 2-1 final scores.
Now they play their first home game under some very unfortunate circumstances. Las Vegas as a city is still dealing with the effects of the recent mass shooting. The Knights announced today that they forego the normal sponsorship advertisements on their boards for the home opener to show their support for their new home.
There won't be any advertisements on the boards tonight. Instead, our boards will reflect who we are. #VegasStrong pic.twitter.com/29pL7wmMwJ

It’s a classy gesture and we’ve seen before that sports can provide a much-needed release for fans still dealing with the effects of such an event. Also, this is not the only thing the Knights have done for the community since the shooting happened. This comes from USA Today on Oct. 3.
"The Vegas Golden Knights announced Tuesday that they were partnering with the NHL and the Foley Family Charitable Trust to donate $300,000 to the victims and first responders of the mass shooting in Las Vegas.Bill Foley is their team owner.According to Sports Illustrated’s Alex Prewitt, Golden Knights players also will be visiting Las Vegas police headquarters, as well as families of victims and blood banks Tuesday and Wednesday."
It’s great to see a sports team reach out with not only money but their time and energy to try to help people who suffered a terrible tragedy.

The Knights face the Coyotes again this evening and with any luck will be the first expansion team to win its first three games. A Knights win certainly might not mean much in the bigger scheme of things, but the Vegas fans deserve any lift they can get right now.
