Was making Bray Wyatt Sister Abigail really the right move?

WWE RAW debuted Sister Abigail for the first time, in quite a creepy way. However, was it the best idea for WWE to do it with Bray Wyatt?

Bray Wyatt claimed last week on WWE RAW that Sister Abigail was alive and she was dying to meet Finn Balor. Now, from how Bray has spoken about her, she has been sort of mishandled over the years. Some claims from him are that she is dead, others are that she is alive, while others leave things open-ended and inconclusive. This week on the show, we were given most of the same old crap by WWE and Bray Wyatt. The booking of this is hard to blame on Bray, as he is just a pawn to what creative wants to do. However, it is clearly obvious that the booking was wrong.

The idea they came up with, after having a week to clearly put this together, was basic, to say the least. They merely added a voice to Bray’s as he spoke words, with a dubbing of sorts over what he was voicing. Though, you could still hear him despite it. His face was covered with a veil but you could see him painted underneath in a white and black pattern that could not really be made out.

The idea behind it is similar to that of a paranormal period where one’s body can be taken over by a spirit of some kind. Basically, a demonic spirit or ghost takes over a human body and pretty much takes over. Though things like this have been overblown over the years.

There have been documented cases of this, where things like exorcisms had to be done to remove them from a body. Some find all of this to be crap, which is clearly understandable. Until one witnesses it for themselves, it is truly hard to believe things like this can occur. It usually stays as a go-to in entertainment due to the fun one can have with it creatively.

Are we just copying Finn Balor with this Bray Wyatt/Sister Abigail idea?

According to some reports, the plan all along has been for us to see Abigail take over Bray with face paint that sort of imitates that of what the Demon King is for Finn Balor. Becoming an alter-ego for Wyatt, more or less. Basically, it is a copy-cat version of what we see with Balor. The difference? Finn Balor’s demon king gimmick makes sense and it simply a part of him. It is not another ghost-like character taking over his body, rather a demon within him taking over.

He uses old Irish folktales to make sense of the Demon, which makes it work pretty well. WWE had to add this in for a few reasons. The first was they could not let him do the kind of paint he did in NJPW because of copyright issues. Therefore, they had to have him stick with one character that adds certain paint for certain reasons. This is why we could see the Demon change up like we did in NXT, depending on the situation.

The other reason they did this was so casual fans would not totally be into the idea of a man just putting on paint. There needed to be a reason for it and something that could affect him as a character. Why would the Demon King somehow be better than Finn Balor when Balor freely admits he created the demon?

Bray Wyatt, on the other hand, would have a random ghost of his supposed sister, though WWE and Bray have been highly inconclusive on what this truly means. Is it a sibling? A nun? There are a lot of unanswered questions, which is why the idea of bringing out Abigail seems to be the last resort for the character of Bray Wyatt. While people like Bray, he has truly been misused extremely since leaving WWE SmackDown Live, with no real use left within him.

Now we’re bringing out Abigail, which is hoping to breathe new life into Wyatt. The problem is, they are going about it the wrong way.

A better option for the Sister Abigail character that could actually help Bray Wyatt

WWE is having Sister Abigail supposedly take over Bray Wyatt, which means we’ll most likely see a few things come from it. Clearly a new attire with face paint similar to what we saw on WWE RAW on Monday night. This may also include a different entrance, which is exactly what happens with Finn Balor.

From here, what is actually happening? Probably, he’ll act a bit different in the ring and more possessed, if you will. This could include a slightly different move-set. However, don’t bet on a drastic change here. The problem is, none of this is actually necessary.

The best thing that could have been done was to switch things up just slightly, which would have turned out to be much better than the option they went with here. Why not have Abigail possess a women’s division performer from NXT like Ruby Riot or Sarah Logan? Both would be great for the part, and we could easily set up a storyline for it to make sense.

Ruby clearly has shown promise in the ring, as has Logan. In fact, both women can play dark characters pretty well and proved it before they even arrived in WWE. Logan alone was known as “Crazy” Mary Dobson and was a huge independent name. WWE changed her to a Kentucky country girl who loves to have a good time, completely ripping away what made people love her away from WWE. Having her be taken over by Sister Abigail, a good girl gone evil, it would really be huge.

Now, WWE brings up weekly that Sister Abigail took over the body of Sarah or Ruby and it is clearly known that we’re not ignoring who they really are. Meanwhile, we have Abigail keep hold of them for a long time as they help Bray Wyatt out on a weekly basis. This would be a managerial role that could also bring up some physical action in the women’s division. This way, we bring up a woman from NXT with a hot story and the whole angle here would not turn out to be crap.

Where is this going for Bray Wyatt?

The idea behind all of this makes sense and a ghost takeover for Wyatt does seem interesting in theory. However, it is a disappointment for WWE fans. It’s not as if WWE doesn’t have any other options for this either. In fact, we have a separate one that could be great for them. However, at the end of the day creative is going to do what creative is going to do.

What have we learned? While WWE will use this angle for Bray Wyatt, they may never know how to truly use the Sister Abigail character. It could also be that even Bray does not truly know what he wants to do with it either. Thus, leaving creative in the dark about how to even begin to use her.

Either way, it looks like this will not go well for WWE or Bray when all is said and done. However, it might lead to Wyatt getting the victory over Balor at WWE TLC, where the two are surely going to have their last match together for this feud. The rivalry many thought would be good has turned out to be quite boring for many fans. So the sooner it ends, the better, if you ask around. Where is this all going for Bray Wyatt? Most likely nowhere, which is quite a shame.
