Fans may be left stranded following Nationals game

The owners of the Washington Nationals have asked fans to find ‘alternate forms of travel’ to game five on Thursday since they refused to pay to have public transportation extended to accommodate the game.

Imagine watching your favorite baseball team head to the National League Championship Series after defeating last seasons World Series Champions — and then being stranded without a way to get home. Well, that’s a dilemma that the Washington Nationals fans may be facing when their cities public transportation won’t be running, despite it being possible.

The team put out a travel advisory letting fans know that the trains will be shutting down between 11:02 and 11:48 (depending on your line). The thing is … the game starts at 8:08 pm meaning that fans who would need to make a train would more than likely have to leave the stadium early – for game five.

Yahoo! Sports reported that this whole travel disaster could have been avoided had the team owners paid to have the hours extended. The team instead asks the fans to bike (at night) to the game rather than pay the $100,000 per hour fee to extend public transportation for about three hours max.

In case you’re thinking that’s a lot of money to shell out for the fans keep in mind that the payroll for the Nationals this season is $188.5 million.

This isn’t the first time there have been Metro issues involved the Nationals organization. Last season fans chanted “Metro sucks,” during the 2016 NLDS game with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Nationals are facing the Chicago Cubs after winning a shut-out on Wednesday night bringing the series back home to Washington D.C. Whoever wins will face the Dodgers to battle for the spot as the National League team in the World Series.

The Nationals have never appeared in a World Series championship game.
