Milwaukee Brewers: Build up the rotation

The Brewers made it back into the playoff picture this year way ahead of schedule. An 86-76 finish should have Milwaukee baseball fans plenty excited about the future. Gambling on bringing Eric Thames back from Korea paid off in a big way for the Brewers as he hit 31 home runs with an OPS of .877. Travis Shaw also blossomed into an MVP candidate when given a chance in a full-time role.

The most impressive of the bunch of young Brewers was outfielder Domingo Santana, who hit 30 home runs and drove in 85 in his age-24 season. Keon Broxton also had a 20-20 season in center field but will need to make more consistent contact to reach his ceiling. Orlando Arcia also looks like the real deal up the middle at shortstop.

Perhaps more impressive than anything else that went right for the Brewers in 2017 was the trio of Zach Davies, Chase Anderson and Jimmy Nelson combining to go 41-19. Milwaukee’s rotation is set, but adding one more veteran starter could push them over the top.

A veteran like Lance Lynn or Jason Vargas would be an excellent addition to the Brewers rotation. Their lineup and bullpen are already locked and loaded for a playoff run next year. The Brewers are positioned very well to challenge the Cubs for NL Central supremacy. They are an arm away fielding a legitimate World Series contender.
