We’re getting ready to see the New York Jets host the New England Patriots. Which AFC East team will prevail in this contest?

For the 33rd time in his glorious career, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will take the field against the New York Jets. Including a pair of playoff tilts in both 2006 and ’10, the prolific signal-caller has made 31 career starts vs. the Green and White. He owns a 24-7 record, throwing for 7,625 yards and more than three times as many touchdown passes (48) as interceptions (14).

But it is his first encounter with the Jets which was the most significant. In Week 2 of the 2001 season, he entered a game in which Patriots’ quarterback Drew Bledsoe as severely injured. The rest, as they say, well…you know the rest. But who would have thought that these longtime AFC East rivals would have the same win-loss record five weeks into the season?

Odds

Line: Patriots (-11)

Over/Under: 47.5

You can probably expect a lot of significant totals when it comes to the over/under in these games involving the Patriots. That’s what happens your team is averaging 29.6 points per contest and the opposition is doing its share (28.4 average) as well. Via the consensus at SportsBook Review, the Pats are favored by 11 points.

Did the New England Patriots’ troubled defensive unit somehow turn the corner a week or so ago at Tampa. Yes, the Buccaneers squandered a lot of opportunities to knock off the champs. But that’s a story for another time. So will Belichick’s defenders make Josh McCown look like a Pro Bowler? We’re just not sure the New York Jets have enough weapons to take advantage of this opportunity.

Pick: Patriots 28, Jets 13
