Butch Jones is not long for the Tennessee head coaching job and Bobby Petrino should be the man to fill the shoes in Knoxville.

The Tennessee Volunteers are quite bad this year. That was put out there on display again on Saturday in Week 7 as they lost an ugly SEC East battle with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Because of this, it’s been no secret throughout much of this season that Butch Jones will not be running the show in Knoxville next season.

With this more or less being presented as fact at this point, this has led to questions of who would be the right replacement to get things back on the right track for the Volunteers in 2018.

That man should be none other than current Louisville Cardinals head coach Bobby Petrino.

4. Lamar Jackson is probably gone

Sure, we all know Petrino as one of the better offensive coaches of this generation to an extent, but let’s be honest, reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson has bailed out the Cardinals a lot on his own the last two years. Jackson has been a one-man wrecking crew most of the time, especially with his legs, and it’s rewarded Louisville with a few wins they may not have gotten otherwise.

Next season, should Petrino stay in Louisville, the Cardinals head coach will likely not have that luxury. If he’s smart, Jackson will call it a career on his terrific collegiate stint to begin figuring out how he fits into the NFL picture.

As his only Heisman Trophy winner departs, so should Petrino to Knoxville if they come calling.
