Justin Turner hit a ball so hard it put a hole in the backstop (Video)

Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Justin Turner used his power to put a hole in the backstop during Game 2 of the NLCS.
The Cubs and Dodgers are meeting for a rematch in the NLCS, and fans aren’t sure if they can survive another intense series like we saw last year. We’re only two games in, and already something hasn’t survived — the Dodgers backstop.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Dodgers slugger Justin Turner hit a foul ball that not only shattered the backstop advertisement, but left a nice fat hole behind as well.

That’s probably not going to come out of his paycheck, so he dodged a bullet there.
One thing that this should make you think about is when a batter hits a foul ball into an umpire. So many time we see a foul tip smack an umpire in the face or the flak jacket, and they just keep on trucking like nothing hit them. As displayed by the rather large and unsettling hole int he backstop after Turner’s foul tip, it’s clear that what hits these umps is far from nothing.

As for how hard Turner hit the ball, Dodgers fans can only hope he will straighten that out and put the ball in play. Los Angeles was able to steal a big time win in Game 1, but the Cubs are far from an easy out. If the Dodgers want to make it to the World Series for the first time since the Reagan Administration, then they’ll need to make sure the holes their hitters make are dents in the scoreboard and not the backstop.
