Brad Underwood landed another big-time in-state product in Ayo Dosunmu for Illinois

Welcome back to our weekly recruiting roundup, highlighting the biggest stories in college basketball recruiting from the week that was. This week, there were plenty of commitments, a significant de-commitment and one top-five prospect was arrested. Here’s a look at what happened:

Ayo Dosunmu is headed to Illinois

Brad Underwood continues to land high-level in-state talent. On Thursday evening, he picked up a commitment from 4-star combo guard Ayo Dosunmu. The 6-foot-4 prospect chose the Illini over Wake Forest. He is the first 2018 commitment for Illinois. Ultimately, Dosunmu should pair up with fellow in-state product Mark Smith from the Class of 2017 to give the Illini their backcourt of the future.

Tyler Herro de-commits from Wisconsin

4-star guard Tyler Herro announced he was de-committing from Wisconsin via his Twitter account. In an interview with Scout, Herro noted that he felt “eerie” about the commitment. He said that the Badgers are now out of the running. The 6-foot-5 recruit immediately becomes one of the top shooting guard prospects left on the market. He’s already hearing from plenty of new options, including Arizona, Creighton, Florida, Kansas, Ohio State, Oregon and Villanova.

5-star Emmitt Williams arrested for sexual battery, false imprisonment

Emmitt Williams, a 6-foot-9 power forward in the Class of 2018, was arrested Wednesday morning in Florida on charges of sexual battery and false imprisonment. According to the arrest warrant, the 19-year old refused to let a female friend leave her apartment to pick up a friend and sexually assaulted her. Williams has previously visited Oregon and LSU and was scheduled to visit Florida this weekend.

Eric Ayala commits to Maryland

4-star guard Eric Ayala committed to Maryland last Saturday. In an interview with 247Sports, he cited the ability to play a major role and his relationship with head coach Mark Turgeon as key reasons for his decision. Ayala also made it clear that he intends to try to recruit his Under Armour Association teammate and 5-star prospect Moses Brown to join him on the Terrapins.

Arizona State lands Luguentz Dort

After landing a couple of 4-star prospects last summer, Arizona State’s Bobby Hurley is back at it again. Consensus 4-star talent Luguentz Dort committed to the Sun Devils during a Midnight Madness event at his school in Canada earlier this week. Hurley is set to lose a trio of guards at the end of this season, opening up immediate playing time for the 4-star recruit.

Jared Butler commits Alabama

Avery Johnson seems to have a thing for landing point guards and with freshman Collin Sexton presumably headed to the NBA next season, Johnson needed a replacement. On Monday, he got at least an option when 4-star recruit Jared Butler committed to the Crimson Tide. The top 100 talent chose Alabama over the likes of Baylor, Texas and Virginia.

Jamie Dixon continues getting big-time commits

TCU is back to getting top 25 votes and now the Horned Frogs are continuing to land some solid recruits under head coach Jamie Dixon. Earlier this week, Dixon locked up a commitment from 4-star wing Kaden Archie. He is the fourth prospect in TCU’s 2018 class.
