Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Derrick Rose thinks Milwaukee Bucks center Greg Monroe should have been whistled for a flagrant foul after a play that injured Rose’s ankle.

Derrick Rose is injured. That is a sentence you may have grown weary of over the years. This time the culprit was an opposing player, Bucks center Greg Monroe, and Rose isn’t happy a flagrant foul wasn’t called on the play.

Rose also believes a call would have been made had it been committed against any other player besides him.

“I think I’m the only person in the league that’s not getting a flagrant for that call, bro,” Rose told reporters after the game. “Come on, man. Like, I’m sure I’m the only player, but it is what it is. … That’s a common foul. Wow. Come on.”

The Cavaliers ended up winning the game 116-97, and they have shown phenomenal chemistry so far this season for a squad who hasn’t played with each other much. Derrick and LeBron in particular have looked explosive, and it’s a shame for the Cavaliers that Rose will be out for a while.

Cleveland is running low on point guards, with Isaiah Thomas also out with a hip injury. That makes it likely Jose Calderon will get the start in their next game.

The Cavaliers are the third team Rose has played for during his career, and this season would appear to be his best shot at a championship. He has averaged 13.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game this year, and eventually he’ll be the backup point guard behind Thomas. There are definitely worse reserves you could have. Rose is, after all, a former NBA MVP.

Because Monroe hit Rose by the head and neck while the point guard was in the air, that is a flagrant foul to me. But he has to understand that when you relentlessly attack the rim like he does, then you are going to get hit sometimes. Also, he isn’t the only player in the league who hasn’t received a flagrant foul call on a play like that. Kawhi Leonard anyone?

Ultimately, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference in the game if Monroe had been called for a flagrant. The Cavaliers were up by 12 at that point, but it makes sense that Rose is sensitive about plays that end with him getting injured. Here’s wishing him a speedy recovery so that he can continue gelling with his new teammates.
