On Monday evening at Lincoln Financial Field, the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Redskins. What did we learn from this Week 7 tilt?

Back in Week 1, the Philadelphia Eagles gave the rest of the NFC East a little something to think about when they went to FedExField and handed the Washington Redskins a 30-17 setback. Jim Schwartz’s defensive unit forced ‘Skins quarterback Kirk Cousins into three turnovers, returning one of his fumbles for a score.

Since then, the Redskins have come to look like one of the better teams in the division. On the other hand, Doug Pederson’s squad is riding a four-game winning streak and has the look of a championship contender. On Monday night in Philadelphia, the Birds were in a position to sweep the ‘Skins for the first time since 2013.

It took some time for either team to reach the end zone and Washington actually owned a 10-3 lead in the second quarter before the Birds seized some serious momentum. When it was all over, it was another big outing for Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz as his club came away with an impressive 34-24 victory.

Three Stars

1. Carson Wentz

The second-year pro continues his recent hot play as Wentz struck for 268 yards and four touchdowns (1 interception) in the team’s 34-24 victory on Monday night. The second overall pick in 2016 has thrown for at least three scores in each of his last three contests. Wentz also led the Birds with 63 rushing yards.

2. Zach Ertz

He has been Carson Wentz’s go-to guy once again and he enjoyed a big evening against the Washington Redskins’ pass-coverage units. Ertz was targeted five times and finished with five grabs for 89 yards and one score in the Eagles’ 34-24 triumph.

3. Kirk Cousins

The sixth-year pro saw his starting offensive line come apart on Monday night due to injuries. But Cousins refused to give up the ship, He finished the evening with 303 passing yards and three scores through the air in Washington’s 10-point setback.

Odds

The Eagles opened as a 4.5 point favorite, an ideal line considering the Birds were going for the sweep and had already defeated the Redskins by 13 points earlier this season. The over/under for the contest stood at 48.5 and the teams managed to surpass that figure.

Next Week

The Washington Redskins have another big divisional matchup this coming Sunday as they host the 3-3 Dallas Cowboys. Jason Garrett’s club has won six of the last eight meetings. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles remain at home and welcome the winless San Francisco 49ers.
