Justin Turner comes through in the 6th inning with a clutch 2-run home run to give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead over the Astros in the 2017 World Series.

The Los Angeles Dodgers jumped out to a 3-1 lead in Game 1 of the 2017 World Series with a 2-run homer from Justin Turner. Turner has been a key player for the Dodgers in the 2017 postseason, and for good reason. The NLCS co-MVP winner and 2017 All-Star has come through in the clutch to help the team win games, which has been the story of the Dodgers’ 2017 postseason so far.

Coming into Game 1, Turner had three home runs and 12 RBI for a .387 average. With this 2-run homer Turner jumps to four postseason homers and 14 RBI to break the Dodgers postseason RBI record, which had previously been 13 set by Dusty Baker back in 1977. Turner’s walk-off 3-run homer in Game 2 of the NLCS gave Los Angeles a big win over the Cubs on the anniversary of the team’s 1988 Game 1 World Series victory, a game that also saw a game winning walk-off homer.

Turner’s home run on Dallas Keuchel’s 87 MPH cutter drove in Chris Taylor, the man who put the Dodgers on the board with a solo home run in the 1st inning. Both Turner and Taylor have been productive this postseason, giving the Dodgers pitchers some room to work and protect the lead.

Turner, a 2017 National League All-Star, had 21 home runs and 71 RBI in the regular season for a solid .322 average. Ironically, Turner and Taylor were named the co-MVPs of the National League Championship Series after their strong showing against the Cubs. It’s no surprise, then, that Turner and Taylor are turning up the heat in Los Angeles for the World Series.
